About

Hello, I’m Amanda!

Welcome to Gossamer Word!

Look at the top of this page. Is that a spider web? Why yes, it is. It’s actually a fine, intricate kind of web called “gossamer.” Unlike the World Wide Web (www), Gossamer Word is a smaller, more closely connected world of language and culture. It’s a place to learn about specific ESL teaching techniques, classroom ideas, language learning and life as an expat in China.

About Me

Since 2012, I’ve been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). I hold a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) as well as a license to teach ESL from the state of Massachusetts. I have lived and taught in Jeju, South Korea, and I’m soon moving to Beijing, China, to work for the industry leader in online English education for Chinese children, VIPKID. Over the years, I’ve collected and honed strategies for more effective ESL teaching and classroom management, which I’d love to share with all of you.

Besides that, I’m a language student myself, and I’m happy to share the resources and methods I’ve used to study Korean and Mandarin Chinese. Many of these tools and tips can be used for learning any language!

That’s the short version. If you’d like a longer introduction (with poetry!), head on over to my first post here.

If you’d like to receive notifications when I make a new post, add you email and click the subscribe button to the right of this page.
